Some of our children who find mainstream education tricky, were lucky to attend Run With It at the MKM Stadium. They embarked on 10 weekly lessons with Mel where they became immersed in the delights of the stadium to help them with their learning in many areas. Some of which included reading information about the stadium, writing commentary reports and solving maths problems. The hands on approach and practical opportunities have meant that children have developed both academic skills and confidence – it has been an invaluable experience.

“Our son came home and without prompting told us all about the excellent day he’d had. He talked in depth about the talks given by Dean Windass, the PSCO and the young apprentice. Some of the points they raised really seemed to have had a real impact on him, such as why schools need rules to be adhered to in preparation for pupils entering the big wide world. It appears to have been much more effective coming from the staff at Run With It on a Wednesday! Thank you for organising.”

“This initiative challenged the children through the following activities; numeracy hunts, real-life problem solving activities in the retail shops, area and perimeter exercises using the pitch, heart rate tasks, graph work and averages. All of the above made use of the fantastic access to areas such as the stands, concourse, pitch side, media room, changing rooms etc. The children enjoyed every single session and couldn’t wait to return each week.”

Our year 5 children have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to grasp, develop and apply new skills in word, number, communication and motor skills. It is amazing to see the children experience places, people and situations that they otherwise may never have the chance to engage with and this opportunity brings out the best in all of our pupils, creating a positive impact we can see in the classroom. We can come to you with exceptionally shy, under-confident children who, by the end of the Run With It programme, are out of their shells, volunteering ideas and show improving self-belief and make huge progress in their communication and perseverance. The growth in our pupils is because of the wonderfully supportive and inspiring environment that is created by you. Thank you for providing such a wonderful programme and for enhancing our pupil’s education and experience” J Norry - Year 5 Teacher - The Bay Primary

Giving our pupils the opportunity to visit Run With It at Flemingate and take part in a range of activities, has enabled them to apply skills learnt in school. The children have worked together in different ways and each week grown in confidence. I have appreciated the willingness and flexibility of the staff to adapt activities to ensure they link to themes and events within our own curriculum. Run With It has been a springboard for a mini enterprise project back in school. Inspiring the children to create a stall for a forthcoming Christmas Market. A big thank you to Run With It for helping to make this happen.

“All children were provided with learning challenges that were framed around real-world engagement and context. In regards to skills that the children had already developed, they were able to see the purpose behind skills they had been recently taught which helped prompt some quality conversations within the sessions themselves...The quality of the delivery of lessons was unwaveringly good, both you and Georgia were brilliant role models for the children who built excellent relations whilst delivering engaging materials”.

“All learners have progressed. The opportunity to apply skills in a real world environment has facilitated academic progress. Confidence has improved drastically through getting outside the classroom, and motivation to learn for all pupils increased as they loved coming to the stadium”
